Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Senior Sarah Dean (Strongsville/Walsh Jesuit) became Mount Union's all-time digs leader and the Purple Raider volleyball team held off a rallying Muskingum squad to finish off a 3-2 victory in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.
Mount Union won the first two sets before the Fighting Muskies (11-17, 2-6) battled back to force a fifth and deciding set in the Purple Raiders' 25-19, 25-6, 18-25, 22-25, 16-14 decision.
Dean finished with 39 digs on the night, pushing her career total to 2,324. She surpassed Kristen Sagula, who had 2,302 digs in 2002-05.
Roni Schroeder (Shelby/Shelby) led the Mount Union attack with 17 kills while Monica Hupertz (Willoughby Hills/Beaumont) and Deanna Glass (Medina/Medina) contributed 14 and 13, respectively. Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) made 51 assists.
Dean wasn't the only Raider to excel on defense. Radigan and Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) had 15 digs apiece. Michelle Simmons (Uniontown/Green) added 11.
Mount Union (20-8, 6-2) will wrap up its regular season with two matches on Saturday. The Raiders will take on OAC foe Otterbein at 1 p.m. and then non-conference opponent Case Western Reserve at 5.
The Raiders will open OAC Tournament play at home on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
