ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Joey Merlo (Niles/Cardinal Mooney) notched two goals, leading the Mount Union men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Marietta in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders scored all three goals in a span of under eight minutes.

In the 20th minute, Kevin Cindric (Willowick/Eastlake North) dribbled into the 18-yard box and sent a pass to Merlo, who put the Purple Raiders up, 1-0.

Kevin Kowalewski (Warsaw/River View) added Mount Union's next goal in the 26th minute before Merlo converted a penalty kick during the 28th.

Jon Critell (Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) was the winning goalkeeper, finishing with three saves. At the opposite end, Chris Stollar stopped five shots for the Pioneers (0-10-3, 0-3-0).

Mount Union (7-4-1, 2-1-0) will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts OAC foe John Carroll. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
