ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) finished with 18 points and four steals while the 11th-ranked Mount Union women's basketball team used a 24-4 first-half run to pull away in its 77-42 season-opening win over Westminster (Pa.) on Monday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

LaMattina scored 13 points in the opening period, including 11 during the decisive run which turned a 5-5 tie into a 29-9 Purple Raider advantage.

Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) added 15 points while Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) and Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) put in 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Mount Union which led at halftime, 40-20.

LaMattina and Erin Schmidt (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) led the Raiders on the boards with five rebounds apiece.

The hosts' biggest second-half run was a stretch in which they outscored the Titans, 17-4. Seven different Raiders contributed points, including Kilgore who capped the outburst with six consecutive points.

As a team, Mount Union forced 31 turnovers and shot 27 of 57 (47.4 percent) from the field. The Titans outrebounded the Raiders, 46-33.

For Westminster (0-1), Emily Dolsak led the way with 10 points. Hannah Schaffer added nine points and Andi Ridge grabbed nine rebounds.

The Purple Raiders (1-0) will be in action next at Saint John Fisher's Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational. They are scheduled to take on Union (N.Y.) in a first-round match on Saturday, November 27, at 6 p.m. On the following day, the Mount Union women will meet either host Saint John Fisher or D'Youville (N.Y.)
