Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Capital erased an eight-point second half deficit with a 16-3 run to edge Mount Union, 74-70, in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday in Columbus.
Tyler Munro hit five three-pointers and had 19 points and D.J. Frazier had 13 points but it was the bench for Capital (6-2, 2-1 OAC) led by 14 from Kelly Winter and 11 from Spencer Niekamp that made the difference and outscored the Purple Raiders reserves 35-10.
Mount Union (2-6, 1-2 OAC) got season-high 20-point efforts from Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) and Matt Wier (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) while Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) had 15 points.
The Raiders led the entire first half and took a 38-35 lead into halftime. That lead extended to 43-35 on a Wier layup with 18:28 to play before Capital went on its decisive run.
Mount Union would tie the game three different times the rest of the way but never reclaimed the lead.
The Raiders finish the season opening nine-game road trip next Saturday at 4 pm at Wilmington.
