Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's nationally-ranked women's basketball team had a tough time putting away a game Muskingum squad before going on a late 16-point run in its 71-53 victory over the Fighting Muskies in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.
Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) scored 19 points for the Purple Raiders, including 14 in the first half, and also made four steals.
Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) added 13 points, five assists and four steals, Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) scored 10 points and Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) grabbed 12 rebounds for Mount Union.
Trailing 14-11 in the first half, the Raiders used a 7-point run -- led by five from Wiedt -- to take an 18-14 advantage.
Mount Union was ahead 30-25 at halftime and led until Yasmyn Inskeep's layup gave the Fighting Muskies a 47-46 lead with 8:54 left in the game.
The Raiders (8-1, 4-1) then took command with 16 straight points and outscored their visitors, 25-6, the rest of the way. LaMattina led the late charge with nine points in the final 6:24.
Hannah Oakley led Muskingum (4-7, 2-2) with a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Amanda Dobbins contributed 13 points and eight rebounds while Suzanne Nichols put in 11 points.
Mount Union, which is ranked 11th by ESPN/USA Today and 12th by D3Hoops.com, will return to action next week at the Juniata (Pa.) Invitational. The Purple Raiders will take on Case Western Reserve on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and then Juniata on Thursday at 3 p.m.
