With the win, the Purple Raiders improve to 10-12 overall and
8-7 in the OAC. With their loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 12-10
overall and 7-8 in the OAC.
Pellerite also became the 25th player in school
history to go over 1,000 career points when the junior forward hit
a layup and converted a three point play with a free throw with
1:32 left in the second half that brought the Raiders to within two
points at 63-61. Mount Union, which had trailed 33-19 at
halftime, was down 53-32 with 11:33 left in the second half.
After a B-W missed free throw Pellerite would hit a layup with to
tie the game at 63-63 and send it to the first overtime.
A pair of Ben Hodkinson (Tippecanoe/Harrison Central) free throws
with 21 seconds left in the first overtime gave Mount Union a 72-69
lead, but Kyle Brown nailed a three pointer to tie the game at 72
and move the game to a second overtime.
Brown hit a pair of jumpers to start the second overtime and give
the Jackets a 78-74 lead with 3:37 to play in the period, but the
Raiders would then outscore B-W 10-4 the rest of the way with
Pellerite scoring six of those points to put the game away.
Pellerite was one of five Raiders in double figures as Wes Knavel
(Zanesville/West Muskingum) had 15 off the bench, Hodkinson and
King each tallied 13 and Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) had
12 points.
Brown finished with a game-high 25 to lead four players in double
figures for Baldwin-Wallace.
Mount Union stays home to face Otterbein in an OAC matchup Saturday
at 3 pm at the MAAC in Alliance. An alumni game is slated for
1 pm and prior to tip-off the seniors on the this year's team, King
and LaRon Marshall (Cleveland/Collinwood) will be honored.
