The Purple Raiders are now 11-12 overall and at 9-7 in
the OAC move into a tie for fourth place with Capital in the
standings with two games left. The top four teams at the end
of the regular season host quarterfinal games in the OAC
Tournament.
Sophomore forward Matt Wier (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) had 18
points and eight rebounds to lead five in double figures for Mount
Union.
Senior guard Sam King (Masury/Brookfield) had 16 points in what
could have been his final home game, sophomore forward Jimmy Wood
(Wintersville/Indian Creek) and freshman forward Matt Kiger
(Williamstown, WV/Williamstown) each had 13, while junior forward
Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) rounded out the
Raiders double figure scorers with 12.
Brice Rausch had a game-high 23 points and Chris Davis had 17
points and 10 rebounds to lead an Otterbein squad that is now 6-17
overall and 4-12 in the OAC.
Otterbein controlled the game early and an Ian Gardner layup with
11:49 to play in the first half gave the Cardinals a 20-15
lead.
Mount Union would then go on a 16-2 run capped by a Jordan Tozzi
(Magnolia/Sandy Valley) three pointer to take a 31-22 lead at the
5:50 mark. The Raiders would lead 40-35 at the half.
Mount Union hit eight of its 12 second half shots to take the lead
to 12 points, 60-48 on a Tozzi layup with 12:27 to go. The
Raiders continued their hot shooting as they finished the half
converting 17-of-26 shots (65.4-percent) on their way to 48 second
half points and go on to the 88-71 victory.
Mount Union finishes the regular season on the road with a game
next Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Muskingum and next Saturday at 2 pm at
Capital.
