The win was the Purple Raiders fourth in a row and makes them
20-3 overall marking just the fifth 20-win season in school history
and first since the 1997-98 season. Mount Union also moved to
13-3 in the OAC which keeps them in a second place tie with
Baldwin-Wallace and just a game behind first place Capital with two
games to go.
Wiedt had a season-best and game-high 26 points, freshman guard
Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 18 and sophomore forward
Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) had 10 points to lead Mount
Union.
Katy Miller had 17 points to lead three players in double figures
for Otterbein (9-14, 6-10 OAC).
A Wiedt three-pointer with 12 minutes to go in the first half gave
the Raiders a 23-12 lead, but the Cardinals answered with a 10-3
run to close the gap to four points, 26-22 at the 7:05 mark.
Mount Union would stretch the lead back out to 11 points, 39-28,
before taking a 39-30 lead into the lockers.
The Raiders took their largest lead of the game at 44-32 after a
Wiedt jumper with 15:43 to play but again Otterbein would rally
with a 12-0 run to tie the game at 44 with 12:55 left.
LaMattina would hit a three pointer to keep Mount Union in front
and the Raiders took the lead back out to seven points, 55-48 with
nine minutes to go, but Otterbein would not go away as they chipped
away and tied the game on a Miller layup at 66 with 1:24
remaining.
Each team would miss a shot and after a Mount Union timeout, Rose
would find Wiedt streaking to the basket who made a layup that
turned out to be the game-winner.
