#22 Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker Late at Capital; Raiders No. 2 seed in next week's OAC Tournament

Mount Union (21-4, 14-4 OAC) will be the the No. 2 seed and host No. 7 seed Otterbein next Tuesday (Feb. 23) at 7:30 pm in an OAC Tournament quarterfinal game.

LaMattina and Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) each had 14 points while Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) had 11 points to lead the Raiders.

Capital was led by the 1-2 punch of Kristen Richardson, who had a game-high 25 points and Caitlin Elsass with 20 points.

Mount Union controlled the first half and took a 12-point lead, 40-28 into halftime.

Capital rallied as they opened the second half on a 15-3 surge to tie the game at 43 with 13:40 to go.

The game was close the rest of the way with six ties before a LaMattina three-pointer with 26 seconds left gave Mount Union a 64-63 lead.

Capital guard Tara Harper would then drive the lane, hit a layup and was fouled with 10 seconds left.  She converted the free throw as the play turned out to be the game winner for the Crusaders.
