Led by sophomore Kori Weidt's (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) 17
points, the Purple Raiders move to 17-3 on the season and 10-3 in
the OAC.
Sophomore Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) earned her third
double-double of the season by notching 10 points and 12
rebounds. Senior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tuskcarawas Valley)
had 13 points and junior Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) had 11
points to round out the double figure scoring for the Raiders.
Lee Jennings scored a game-high 30 points for the Blue Streaks, who
leaped out on an 8-0 lead in game's first four minutes and
stretched that lead to 10 on a Jennings free throw to put the score
at 22-12.
Mount Union would chip away at that margin throughout the remainder
of the first half, eventually closing it down to three points on a
Forquer layup with four seconds left to leave the score 44-41
heading into halftime.
Beginning the second half, John Carroll went on a 17-7 run capped
off by a Jennings layup at the 10:57 mark to put the score at
63-48. From this point, Mount Union would put together its
comeback as the Raiders went on a 23-7 surge capped off by
three-straight three-pointers by Weidt to give the Raiders
their first lead of the game, 71-70 at the 4:33 mark.
Six lead changes and four ties highlighted next three minutes
before Mount Union iced the game going 7-of-8 from the line in the
final minute.
Mount Union will remain at home and host Ohio Northern Saturday at
3 pm at the MAAC in Alliance.
