Box Score BETHANY, W. Va. -- Three different goalscorers helped the Mount
Union men's soccer team stretch its unbeaten streak to four games
with a 3-2 victory over Bethany on Wednesday.
Thomas
Beck (Poland/Cardinal Mooney) finished with a goal and an
assist while Matt
McCain (Homeworth/West Branch) and Joey Merlo
(Niles/Cardinal Mooney) also tallied for the Purple Raiders
(3-2-1).
Beck opened the scoring in the first minute -- exactly 53
seconds into the contest.
Arkangelo James answered right back with a goal for the Bison
(2-5) in the third minute.
Mount Union then scored the next two goals. McCain found the net
in the 10th minute before Merlo expanded the Raider advantage to
3-1 in the 47th. Beck assisted Merlo's score.
Jason Straw brought Bethany within one with a goal in the 74th
minute.
Jon
Critell (Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) was the winning
goalkeeper. He made six saves for the Raiders.
Matt Burt stopped nine shots for the Bison.
Mount Union will be in action again this weekend at the
Wittenberg Invitational. The Purple Raiders will take on Earlham
and St. John Fisher.
