Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union held #24 ranked Marietta to its lowest point total of the season, but the Pioneers scored 21 points off 19 Purple Raider turnovers to remain undefeated with a 64-54 victory Wednesday in Alliance.
Marietta moves to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the OAC and got a team-high 14 points from freshman point guard Tyler Hammond.
The Pioneers also got 13 points from Trevor Halter and 10 points from Kevin Knab.
Mount Union fell to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the OAC as the Purple Raiders saw their win streak stopped at two games.
Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) posted his second-straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) had 14 points and Matt Wier (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) posted 12 points to round out the double figures scorers for the Raiders.
There were four ties and three lead changes over the game's first nine minutes and Mount Union had a 12-10 lead on a Wood layup with 11:43 to play in the half.
Marietta ripped off 10 straight points to take an eight point lead, 20-12 with 9:31 left in the period.
Back-to-back three pointers by Pellerite and Wood brought the deficit back to two points, 20-18, but Wood then left the game with an injury and did not return until the second half.
The Pioneers finished the half on a 12-5 surge and took a 32-23 lead at the half.
Mount Union got no closer than six points the rest of the way.
The Raiders next host Ohio Northern Saturday at 4 pm at The MAAC. The game will be the second half of a women and men's doubleheader and both games will be televised via tape delay on WIVM Ch. 52 (Canton) at 7 pm and 9 pm and on SportsTime Ohio at 10 pm and midnight.
