Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio—The Mount Union volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to #6 Heidelberg in a battle for first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon.
After losing the first set 25-18, the Purple Raiders (18-6, 4-1) took the second set 25-20 to even the match. Heidelberg (23-2, 6-0) won the third set 25-18 and ended the Purple Raiders' upset bid with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) led the Raider attack with 16 kills and Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) added ten kills. Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) had a double-double with 37 assists and ten digs. Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) led the defense with 30 digs while Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) contributed 19 digs.
Heidelberg extended its winning streak to 15 matches and has won 17 consecutive OAC matches dating back to last season. They were led by Marian Bevington with 14 kills, Rachel Ferguson with 30 assists, and Tessa Benanzer with 24 digs.
Mount Union returns home on Tuesday night when they play host to Baldwin-Wallace. The Purple Raiders will look to maintain their second place position in the OAC standings.
