Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union volleyball team defeated Baldwin-Wallace 3-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest Tuesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. A terrific defensive performance helped them earn a 25-12, 25- 20, 15-25, 25-16 win over the Yellow Jackets.
The Purple Raiders opened the match in typical fashion with an easy first set victory. This was their fourth straight home match with a 25-12 win in the first set. However, the Yellow Jackets continued to battle and were able to avoid the three-set sweep.
Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) had an outstanding overall match. The lone senior on the squad contributed 41 assists, 14 digs, six kills and a team-best .400 hitting percentage. The rest of the team struggled and combined for just a .119 hitting percentage.
Six Raiders had kills on the night, led by Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with 14, Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) with nine, Maya Brown (Tifin/Tiffin Columbian) and Deanna Glass (Medina/Medina) with eight, and Melanie Patterson (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with seven.
Mount Union limited the Yellow Jackets to just a .011 hitting percentage on the night. Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) had a team-best 22 digs, followed by Riley Galant (Lewis Center/Olentangy) with 15, and Allison Insana (Cleveland/Villa-Angela St. Joseph) and Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) with 11 each. Glass added six block assists.
Baldwin-Wallace was led by Amanda Sawicki with nine kills, Jessica Stitts with 28 assists, and Natalie Emmons with 26 digs.
The Raiders return to action when they travel to Capital on Saturday. A win would secure a first round home match in the OAC Tournament.
