Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Big days from junior forward Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) and senior forward Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) resulted in Mount Union's men's basketball team getting a 74-67 win over Heidelberg in the regular season finale Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
Wood scored a season and game-high 23 points and hauled down eight rebounds, while Pellerite had 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals. In his final home game as a Purple Raider, Pellerite moved to third place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,444 points.
Dane Givner had 19 points and seven rebounds as one three players in double figures for Heidelberg (11-14, 9-9 OAC).
The first half featured five lead changes and a pair of ties and a Givner three-pointer with 6:02 left gave Heidelberg a 28-22 lead. Mount Union then finished the half on a 17-6 run with final three points coming via a Wood three-pointer from just past half court at the buzzer to lead 39-34 at the break.
Mount Union extended that lead to 13 points, 48-35 before Heidelberg rallied to within a point, 55-54 with 7:19 remaining. The Raiders then went on 13-2 run that took the lead the lead back out to 12 points, 68-56 with 4:12 left in the game.
Mount Union ends the regular season with a record of 10-15 and seventh in the OAC with an 8-10 mark. The Raiders are the No. 7 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and play Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 pm at John Carroll.
Heidelberg falls to 11-14 overall and are tied with Otterbein for fifth place in the OAC at 9-9. The Berg hold the tiebreaker and will travel Tuesday, Feb. 22 to No. 4 seed Ohio Northern.
