Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) compiled her second straight double-double, leading Mount Union's nationally ranked women's basketball team to a 70-47 win over Marietta at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
With the victory, and Baldwin-Wallace's 75-73 loss to John Carroll, the Purple Raiders moved into first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings.
Rose tied her career-high of 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. By halftime, she had secured the double-double.
Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) contributed 11 points and Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) made eight assists for Mount Union, which led 39-23 at intermission.
The Raiders actually never trailed, using an early seven-point run to take command at 18-8.
Mount Union later added 12 straight points, including five by Wiedt and four from Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) to widen the gap to 33-16 with 2:45 remaining in the first half.
The Pioneers, who were missing star player Aleisha Guiler, never built traction for a second-half comeback. They pulled within 16 points, but could not inch any closer.
Kristeva Rowe led the visitors with 14 points while Chelsea Doutt put in 10. Mallory Hoff grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Purple Raiders (19-3, 12-3), who are ranked 20th on the D3Hoops.com and ESPN/USA Today polls, now have an inside track to the OAC regular season championship. Their next two opponents are the only other squads in serious contention.
On Saturday, Mount Union will visit third-place Ohio Northern (15-7, 10-5) for a 2 p.m. contest and then, on the following Wednesday, the Purple Raiders will host second-place Baldwin-Wallace (16-6, 11-4) at 7:30 p.m.
Finally, the Raiders will play their regular season finale on February 19, when they host Heidelberg at 2 p.m.
