Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—Thomas Beck (Poland/Cardinal Mooney) scored his seventh goal of the season as the Mount Union men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson. The Purple Raiders (5-2) have won both of their home matches this season.
Mount Union got on the board first in the 29th minute when a shot by midfielder Chris Motley (Kent/St. Vincent-St.Mary) deflected off a Washington & Jefferson defender for a goal. The keeper stopped the ball mid-air just before crossing the goal line, but his momentum carried him across the line for the goal.
Beck added a goal in the opening minutes of the second half off a giveaway by the defense to give the Purple Raiders a 2-0 lead. He has now scored a goal in each of the past three matches.
Goalkeeper Jon Critell (Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) made six saves in goal for Mount Union. He made a spectacular save on a shot by Sam Sestito in the 86th minute to preserve the victory.
Pete Tomlinson also made six saves for Washington & Jefferson. Ryan Suess scored their lone goal.
Mount Union returns to action tomorrow when they host Point Park (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
