Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's basketball team continued its winning ways, defeating Heidelberg, 67-49, for its third straight Ohio Athletic Conference win Saturday afternoon at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. This is the second three-game winning streak for the Raiders on the season.
Celebrating his 21st birthday, junior Justen Little (Galion/Galion) played one of his finest games. Little scored a career-high 10 points on five-of-six shooting, tied a career-high with seven rebounds, and added three assists for the Purple Raiders.
Defense was the key for the Raiders, who held their opponent under 50 points for the third time this season. Their stingy defense forced Heidelberg to shoot just 33.3-percent from the field and caused 22 turnovers.
The Purple Raiders (7-8, 3-5) used a 13-5 surge at end of the first half to take a 31-23 advantage into the locker room. Mount Union gradually extended their lead throughout the second half, and a layup by Little gave the Raiders their largest lead of the game at 20 points with 2:48 to play.
Senior Jimmy Wood (Winterville/Indian Creek), who leads the OAC in scoring, was held scoreless until scoring Mount Union's final seven points of the first half. Wood finished with 18 points to lead all scorers. He also had four rebounds and four steals.
Freshmen Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) added nine points apiece. Sophomore T.J. Gillespie (Toledo/St. John's) came off the bench to ignite the offense in the first half and finished with 11 points.
The 'Berg (5-10, 3-5) was led by Victor Fortkamp, who had 10 points. Nate Davis scored nine points and Dane Givner added eight points for the Student Pirnce.
Mount Union begins a stretch of three road games when it travels to Marietta on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
