ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union men's tennis team shutout Thiel (Pa.) 9-0 on Friday afternoon Oct 5th.
The Purple Raiders finished the fall season 3-0, while Thiel (Pa.) falls to 1-2.
Mount Union won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 16-5. Junior Patrick Yackmack (Mantua/Twinsburg) and freshman Malcolm Leake (Fremont/Fremont Ross) shutout the Tomcats in their number two doubles match 8-0, and finished the season with a perfect 3-0 overall record.
Senior Nate Fockler was forced to a long third set in the number one singles position, but was victorious in the match (6-3, 1-4, 10-7).
Patrick Yackmack clinched the match for the Raiders, with its 5th point, with a victory in the number three singles match 6-3, 6-2.
The Raiders dominated its opponents in the fall season with an overall singles record of 15-3, and went a perfect 9-0 in doubles.
Freshman Josh Duerr (Uniontown/Lake), sophomore Nick Fockler (North Canton/Hoover), and Malcolm Leake all had perfect 3-0 singles records.
Nate Fockler and Nick Fockler had an overall doubles record of 3-0, and have gone 21-2 in their career as doubles partners.
