Men's Basketball Earns Third Straight With Win At Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - -  Senior Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown) scored 11 points as Mount Union men's basketball team defeated Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday evening (Dec. 15) in the Rike Center. 

With the win, Mount Union has now won three straight and improves its record to 4-5 and 3-1 in the OAC, while Otterbein falls to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

Senior Justen Little (Galion/Galion) scored a season-high 11 points and sophomore Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) chipped in 11  to round out the double-digit scorers for the Raiders while Matt McCollister had 16 points to lead the Cardinals. 

Max Van Meter hit a jumper at 11:46 of the first half, to give the Cardinals a three point advantage to make the score 16-13, which was their largest lead of the game. 

Over the next 4:03, the Raiders would go on an 8-0 run which was capped by a Nate Jacubec jumper at the 7:43 mark of the first half to make the score 23-16.

Freshman Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) hit a jumper with 4:51 left in the first period to give the Raiders a 10 point advantage at 33-23. 

The Cardinals ended the first half on an 11-3 run which was capped by a C.J. Julian fastbreak layup with 16 seconds left and made the score 36-34, which would be the score at the intermission.

Kiger scored a layup and made the free-throw to convert the and one play with 1:38 to go in the game which gave the Raiders their biggest lead of the second half at eight points, and made the score 62-54. 

The Raiders would make four free throws over the final 1:38 and would come out with the victory 66-60. 

Mount Union takes to the road for its next game when it travels to Berea, Ohio to take on Baldwin Wallace with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
