Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHICAGO, Ill. – After splitting the first two matches at the Gargoyle Classic in Chicago, Ill., the Mount Union volleyball team responded by posting two victories on Saturday afternoon, defeating Defiance and Scranton (Pa.).

The 18th-ranked Purple Raiders, who have yet to lose to an unranked opponent this season, had no trouble getting past Defiance in the first match on Saturday.  The Raiders cruised to a three-set win, taking the first set, 25-14, and then the final two, 25-19 and 25-16.  The win improved the Raiders' overall record to 12-4, while Defiance fell to 9-7.  Mount Union's convincing win over Defiance came just one night after the Yellow Jackets tallied a record-setting 20 aces in a three-set win over Chatham (Pa.).

Mount Union's final match of the Gargoyle Classic saw the Raiders top Scranton (Pa.) in four sets (25-9, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19).  The Raiders' 13th win of the season was also their 10th in 11 tries.  Mount Union has lost just one match (last night to Chicago) since Sept. 7, when they dropped a four-set decision to 13th-ranked Cortland State (N.Y.).

The University of Chicago will announce the Gargoyle Classic's All-Tournament team later this evening.

The Raiders will have a week off before opening Ohio Athletic Conference play at home against Ohio Northern on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m.
