Mount Union men's tennis (1-0) hosts Franciscan in the home opener for the fall season Friday, Sept. 28th at 3:30 p.m. The Purple Raiders come off a dominating performance defeating Penn State-Behrend 8-1.
Senior Nate Fockler (North Canton/Hoover) was defeated in the number one singles match, but the Raiders responded by winning the next eight matches in straight sets.
The number one doubles match was won by Nate Fockler and Nick Fockler (North Canton/Hoover) 8-3. Last season, the Fockler brothers had an impressive doubles record of 18-2, and both earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors.
Franciscan (11-3, 7-0) finished the 2011 season as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season champions, but was defeated by Penn State-Behrend 5-4 in the championship match.
In last year's meeting, the Raiders defeated the lions 7-1. Mount Union will face Thiel (Pa.) in the final match (Oct. 5th) of the fall season.
