Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Waynesburg (Pa.) 104-66 at the M-Club Shootout and home opener Friday night at the McPherson Athletic and Academic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) play Hanover (Ind.) -- a 75-70 winner over Denison in the championship game at 5 pm Saturday. Waynesburg (0-3) and Denison meet in the consolation game at 3 pm.
The 104 points were the most for a Mount Union team in a single game since a 110-23 Raider win over Hilbert (N.Y.) on Nov. 20, 1998.
Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had 17 points to lead the Raiders which had 14 different players score.
Cassi Bowen (Brunswick/Brunswick) had 12, while Nancy Osborne (North Canton/GlenOak) and Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) both had 10 points as the other double digit scorers for Mount Union.
Elaine Hasek had a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Waynesburg.
Mount Union opened the game on a 9-0 run and a Bova three-pointer with 13:10 left in the first half gave the Raiders a 19-7 lead.
Waynesburg would rally with a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to close the gap to 23-21. Mount Union would then score eight of the next 10 points -- six of those on a pair of three pointers by Osborne to stretch the lead back out to 31-23. The Raiders would then extend the lead to as many as 16 points before taking a 50-35 lead into the half.
Mount Union opened the second half on a 12-2 run to put the game away.
