Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio --- Third seeded Mount Union knocked off sixth seeded Heidelberg, 3-2 in the first round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Monday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders (12-8) advance to the semifinals against No. 2 seed John Carroll Wednesday at 4 pm in University Heights.
It marks the second time in three years that Mount Union has advanced to the semifinals and the 12 wins mark the most in a single season since 2003.
Heidelberg (10-8) got on the board first with a goal from Ryan Homoki in the seventh minute.
Mount Union would tie the game when Thomas Beck (Poland/Cardinal Mooney) knocked in a penalty kick in the 27th minute.
The Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute as Jack Weber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) would find Quinn Malone (Chardon/Chagrin Falls).
In the second half, Beck would score on another penalty kick in the 64th minute to give Mount Union a 3-1 lead.
The Student Princes would get a second goal from Homoki in the 87th minute, but Mount Union would hold on for the 3-2 victory.
Heidelberg outshot the Raiders 21-9, but freshman goalkeeper Dylan Lias (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) and the Raiders defense held them to only six shots on goal.
