ALLIANCE, Ohio – Top-seeded Mount Union's women's volleyball team, ranked No. 10 in the nation, defeated eighth-seed Marietta 3-0 on Tuesday, November 5 in the Quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders improve to 28-4 overall as Marietta's season comes to an end with a record of 12-18.
In the 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) of Marietta in the quarterfinals, the Raiders were led by junior Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) who notched 12 kills and 14 digs. Senior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) chipped in 13 kills as junior Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) tallied 17 digs.
Junior Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) dished out 26 assists as junior Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) recorded 10 assists.
The Pioneers were led by junior Rachel Hackenberg who notched six kills and six blocks. Senior Amber Wiley recorded 11 digs as junior Laura Mauer tallied 16 assists.
The Raiders host both OAC Volleyball Tournament Semifinal games Friday, November 8 starting at 5:00 p.m. with No. 2 Heidelberg against No. 3 Ohio Northern. This marks the second straight year Mount Union has hosted the semifinals and is the second time in school history the Raiders will host. The OAC Tournament finals are Saturday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Alliance.
No. 1 Mount Union hosts No. 4 Otterbein Friday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. for the second game of the OAC Volleyball Tournament Semifinals.
