ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated Otterbein Saturday, December 14 93-71, in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the OAC as the Cardinals fall to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.

Mount Union was led by sophomores Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) and Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow-Munroe) as they each scored 15 points in the victory. Dillon and Scelza were two of five Raiders in double-digits as sophomore Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) chipped in with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, as senior T.J. Gillespie (Toledo/Toledo St. John's) and junior Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) each scored 12 points.

Otterbein was led by Jake Phillis and Jake Bischoff who each scored 20 points and Antonio Bisutti added 12.

Mount Union controlled the entire game as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, as Jacubec and Dillon each made a three-pointer in the first two minutes before an Otterbein 30-second timeout at 18:04 in the opening half. The Raiders extended their lead to 18 points led by Scelza, as he scored 11 of his 15 points in the seven minute span, 24-6 Mount Union with 11:50 left. The Raiders got their largest lead of the half, 42-24 with 1:55 on the clock, Mount Union headed into the locker room with the 48-32 lead.

Otterbein started the second half off on a 10-0 run to cut the Raiders lead to six points, 48-42 with 17:10 remaining in the game. Mount Union put the game away as they went up by 21 points with 7:50 remaining, 78-57, and went on for the 93-71 victory over the Cardinals.

Mount Union returns to the hardwood, Wednesday, December 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the MAAC as they host Baldwin Wallace.
