ALLIANCE, Ohio - - Mount Union's men's tennis team fell 5-4 to Otterbein in its Ohio Athletic Conference home opener Friday afternoon at Whitehill Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Otterbein improves to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union falls to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
In the match, Mount Union won three of the six singles matches and one of the three doubles matches.
Sophomore Ben Swope (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) recorded two victories on the day as he defeated Jake Devore 6-3, 6-2 in the number five singles match and was paired with freshman Josh Duerr (Uniontown/Lake) as they defeated Tyler Gibbons and Jacob DeVore 9-8 (7-4 in tiebreak) in the number three doubles position.
Junior Patrick Yackmack (Mantua/Twinsburg) was victorious in the longest match of the afternoon as he defeated Zach McDivitt in the number four singles match 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-1 in the tiebreak).
Mount Union returns to action next Saturday when its hosts Baldwin Wallace at 1:00 p.m.
