Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Mount Union men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2013 season to tournament host No. 18 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) 1-0 on Saturday evening.
Carnegie Mellon's Matt Sarett goal in the 17th minute of the match stood as the only goal in the match.
Freshman Kevin Blackley's (Aurora/Aurora) ball struck the crossbar, was rebounded by Coty Lipply (Rootstown/Southeast) who then attempted with a header but the Tartans keeper Jacob Rice was there to make the stop six minutes into the second period.
Tom Beck (Poland/Cardinal Mooney) made a threat at the net in the final minute of play but was unable to capitalize against a strong Tartan defense.
Alex Bable(Columbiana/Columbiana) again got the start for the Raiders, as he faced 24 shots from the Tartans and had nine saves on the night.
The Purple Raiders (1-1) look to bounce back next weekend (Sept. 7-8) when they host the Mount Union Invitational, they open against Defiance College at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 7 at Mount Union Stadium.
