Mastroine Joins 1,000 Digs Club as No. 9 Volleyball Defeats Case Western Reserve in Three Straight Sets

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Mount Union's volleyball team, ranked No. 9 in the nation, defeated Case Western Reserve in three straight sets (25-19, 25-14, 25-13) at Horsburgh Gymnasium Wednesday night as Junior Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) joined the 1,000 career digs club.

Mount Union improved to 9-0 on the season as the Spartans fell to 4-5.

Mastroine recorded 15 digs to enter the elite club of 1,000 digs in her career bringing her total to 1,001 digs.

The Purple Raiders were led by junior Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) as she tallied match high 14 kills and two aces on the night. Senior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) chipped in with nine kills as junior teammate Kara Berger (Mentor/Mentor) had seven kills and added two aces for Mount Union.

Juniors Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) and Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) led Mount Union with 15 assists a piece.

Case was led offensively by Haley Kauffman who had five kills and Kenya Moyers with four. Lauren Gurd had team best 13 assists as teammate Katie Best tallied 11 digs for the Spartans.

No. 9 Mount Union hosts the Purple Raider Classic this upcoming weekend, September 13 and 14. The classic kicks off at 3 p.m. in Alliance as the Raiders take on Transylvania (Ky.).
