ALLIANCE, Ohio - The No. 6 ranked Mount Union volleyball team clinched sole possession of first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference after Saturday's win over Ohio Northern.

Ohio Northern and Mount Union were both 2-0 in the conference coming into the game. Mount Union came out on top in their first five-set match of the season with scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10.

The Purple Raiders (20-2, 3-0 OAC) got career days from multiple players. Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) set a new career-high with 47 digs in the game and took her career total over the 2,000 dig threshold. She is the third Raider to reach the 2,000 milestone. Mastroine's 47 digs is the most digs in a game by a Mount Union player since Sarah Dean had 54 digs in 2010. 

The senior libero also had a career-high six kills. This was Mastroine's first game of 40+ digs and her first game of four or more kills in her career.

The setting duo of Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) and Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) combined for 63 assists on the day. Schleich posted a career-high of her own as she handed out 38 assist while Woodard had a season-high 25 assists. This was the most assists Woodard has had since she had 32 assists against the Polar Bears in 2012.

Freshman Jessie Drew (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) tied her career-high of nine kills from earlier in the season and set her career-high with nine blocks while classmate Mallory Sliman (Amherst/Amherst Steele) set a new career-high with 13 kills. 

Ohio Northern (14-7, 2-1 OAC) got a valiant performance from Ashley Borchers who had a game-high 47 assists and added 20 digs.

With the win Mount Union takes a one game lead over Ohio Northern for the top spot in the conference. They will next play on Tuesday, October 14 as they take on Baldwin Wallace at 7:00pm in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
