Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio - The No. 6 Mount Union volleyball team was dominant in a 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 straight set victory over Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders improve their record to 21-2 overall and 4-0 in OAC competition while Baldwin Wallace drops to 14-10 on the season and has a .500 record in conference at 2-2.
With Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) serving in the first set Mount Union scored 12 straight points to take a commanding 13-3 lead. During the run Mastroine had five service aces, two of which led to Yellow Jacket timeouts.
To start the second set the Raiders scored the first five points with Riley Schenk (Amherst/Amherst Steele) at the service line. Later in the set Mount Union went on a 7-0 run including two aces by Abby Riffee (Mineral Ridge/Mineral Ridge) and two kills by Kara Berger (Mentor/Mentor).
In the final set Riffee was again at the service line when the Raiders went on a 6-0 run to make the score 12-6. Baldwin Wallace got within four points but could not overcome the early defecit.
Mount Union was led by Mastroine with 18 digs, Schenk with 19 assists, and Berger with 13 kills.
Baldwin Wallace was led by Arlayna Newcomer with a game-high 21 digs.
The volleyball team will next be in action Friday night at 7:30pm as the take on No. 5 ranked Wittenberg in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
