Volleyball: No. 6 Mount Union Drops Four-Set Match to No. 5 Wittenberg

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The No. 6 ranked Mount Union volleyball team lost their third match of the year to No. 5 ranked Wittenberg 25-16, 18-25, 25-16, 25-16 Friday night in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Purple Raiders (21-3, 4-0 OAC) were led by Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) and Mel Patterson (Mentor/Lake Catholic) who had 13 kills and 12 kills respectively.

Wittenberg (17-3, 5-0 NCAC) received a double-double from Kara Seidenstricker with 16 kills and 11 digs.

The first set went back and fourth between the two teams but two 4-0 runs late in the set were enough to give Wittenberg an early one set advantage.

In set number two, Sarah Schlecih (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) was at the service line when the Raiders went on an 8-0 to give it a six point lead at 15-9. Mount Union closed out the set with the help of three consecutive kills by Patterson.

Wittenberg bounced right back in the third set by scoring the first 11 points of the set. The two teams played evenly the rest of the set but the deficit was too much for the Raiders to overcome.

Set four was another back and fourth set and was ultimaltely decided when Wittenberg went on an 11-3 run to close out the match.

The volleyball team will play tomorrow (October 18) as they take on Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest in Tiffin, Ohio.
