ALLIANCE, Ohio-- Mount Union's men's tennis team defeated Grove City (Pa.) 5-4 in a non-conference match Friday.
The Purple Raiders advance to 2-1 on the season while the Wolverines fall to 0-2.
The Raiders won two of the three doubles matches with Ben Swope (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and Chase Krummel (Tallmadge/Archbishop Hoban) winning 8-4 in the third position.
In singles action, Rob DeMarco (North Canton/Hoover) in position two and Jeff Williams (Cleveland Heights/St. Edward) in position four defeated the Wolverines in two sets while Swope clenched the win for the Raiders after beating Dan Schafhauser 6-3 and 6-4.
Mount Union opens the spring season and Ohio Athletic Conference action, home against Otterbein on Mar. 21 at the Whitehill Tennis Courts in Alliance.
