WOOSTER, Ohio - Mount Union's men's basketball team lost for the first time this season to No. 10 Wooster in the Al Van Wie/Rotary Classic on Friday. 

The Purple Raiders (1-1 overall) were led by freshman guard J.J. Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) with 16 points. Sophomore DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and junior Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) were also in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

The Fighting Scots (2-0 overall) were led by Josh Kipfer with 16 points.

The Raiders trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, 22-12, but went on a 7-0 run to cut the Wooster lead to three and trailed 33-28 at the half.

Mount Union scored 10 of the first 12 points of the second half and took a 38-35 lead on a Stevie Griffin (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) three-pointer with just under 18 minutes to play.

The Raiders led 49-45 when Kukura hit a shot with 12:08 to play but Wooster responded with a 20-4 run over the next 5:30 and a pair of Kipfer free throws put the Scots up 65-53.

Mount Union rallied again with a 13-4 surge closing the gap to 66-69 with just over three minutes to play but Wooster finished the game on an 11-7 run -- including 7-of-8 from the free throw line -- for the seven-point win.

The Raiders return to Wooster to St. Vincent (Pa.) Sunday at 2 pm.
