Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Baldwin Wallace 68-59 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and home opener Wednesday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Junior Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to lead the Purple Raiders (3-2, 1-0 OAC).
Shari Mangas led Baldwin Wallace (3-2, 0-1 OAC) with 11 points while Audrey Smolik and Janaya Feaster added 10 each.
Baldwin Wallace got off to a 7-0 start three minutes into the game and later led 15-12 when Mount Union responded with an 11-3 surge capped by a Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) three-pointer to lead 23-18 with just over five minutes left in the half. Mount Union would lead 31-27 at the half.
The Raiders opened the second half on a 6-0 run as junior Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) hit back-to-back layups followed by a Bova layup to take the lead out to 37-27. Baldwin Wallace scored 14 of the next 19 points to cut the lead down to a point -- 42-41 -- with 12:47 left in the game.
Mount Union still had a one-point lead, 54-53, with seven minutes left then put the game away with a 12-3 run as Bova had nine of the 12 points and the Raiders went on to the 68-59 win.
Mount Union next takes on Capital Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3 pm in Columbus.
