COLUMBUS, Ohio—Mount Union women's basketball team suffered an Ohio Athletic Conference loss to Capital 85-78 Saturday at the Capital Center in Columbus.

Junior Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) led the Raiders (3-3, 1-1 OAC) with 10 points and eight rebounds while junior Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and freshman Halle Rubino (Mayfield Hts./Mayfield) each added 12 points.

Kristen Thompson led Capital (3-3, 1-1 OAC) completing a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Shelby Sheets added 18 points.

The Raiders began the game with a Colleen Kennehan (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) three followed by a Grippi layup to lead 5-2.

A back-and-forth first half saw six ties and five different lead changes before being capped off by a 7-1 run by Mount Union to lead 40-33 at the break.

Capital started the second half on an 8-4 run to cut the lead to three— 44-41—with 17:01 left to play before Mount Union answered with a 10-2 run sparked by two steals and a layup for Rubino.

A 7-0 run by Capital late in the second half cut the Mount Union lead back to two before a Capital 11-0 run caused the Crusaders to gain the lead at the 4:37 mark -- 67-65 -- after a pair of free throws by Simonne Gage.

Capital would remain in the lead for the remainder of the game with the largest lead of 10 coming at the 2:08 mark before closing out the game with an 85-78 victory.

Mount Union next hosts Otterbein Saturday, Dec. 13 in an OAC matchup at 3 pm followed by Kalamazoo (Mich.) Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 pm at the McPherson Academic Athletic Complex in Alliance.
