Box Score

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Five players scored in double figures as Mount Union scored an 82-76 win over Capital in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders (15-3, 10-1 OAC) remain alone in first place in the OAC and have won 13 of its last 14 games -- with its only loss over that span an 88-70 loss at Capital two weeks ago.

Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) had 24 points and seven rebounds to lead Mount Union.

Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) came off the bench with a season-high 14 points, Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) and Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) each had 11 while T.J. Gillespie (Toledo/Toledo St. John's) scored 10 as the other Purple Raiders in double figures.

Michael Green came off the bench and hit six three-pointers as part of a game-high 26 point performance for Capital (9-10, 6-6 OAC).

There were six lead changes with three ties in the first half.  The final lead change of the period came when Gillespie hit a layup at the seven minute mark to put the Raiders up 19-18.  Mount Union then went on a 15-6 run over the next six minutes to lead 34-24 before Capital scored the final four points as the Raiders took a 34-28 lead into halftime.

Mount Union pushed the lead back to double figures with a 10-4 run to open the second half and lead 44-32 with 17 minutes to play.

A Griffin three-pointer with 12:15 left gave the Raiders a 57-43 lead but the Crusaders rallied over the next six minutes with an 18-8 surge to close the gap to 65-61.

Capital would get to within a bucket, 68-66 on a Tyrel Jackson layup with 3:54 remaining. Mount Union answered with a Jacubec three-pointer and a Gillespie layup to get the lead back out to seven then held on the rest of the way including hitting 6-of-6 free throws in the final two minutes.

Mount Union plays a pair of OAC road games next week -- Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Baldwin Wallace and Saturday at 7:30 pm at Otterbein.
