Men's Basketball: Mount Union Hits Record 18 Three-Pointers in Win; Raiders Stay in First Place in OAC

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) hit six three-pointers in the first half as the Mount Union men's basketball team defeated Heidelberg 87-68 Monday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.

Dillon finished with seven three-pointers and a game-high 21 points as the Purple Raiders set a school-record with 18 made three-pointers for the game.

Mount Union also got a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia), DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) came off the bench with 13 points and T.J. Gillespie (Toledo/Toledo St. John's) had 12 points.

The Raiders (18-3, 13-1 OAC) have won six straight and 16 of their last 17 games while they hold a one-game lead over Marietta in the conference standings.

Deonte Holder and Keith Mackie each scored 19 points to lead Heidelberg (5-16, 1-13 OAC).

Mount Union ran out to a 14-4 lead to start the game but Heidelberg rallied with a 13-5 run of their own to close to within a bucket – 19-17 at the 8:30 mark. The Raiders responded with a 16-4 surge to take their largest lead in the period – 37-21 with 3:40 left. Mount Union would take a 42-30 lead into halftime.

The Berg rallied again to start the second half as they opened the period on 25-11 surge that included three three-pointers from Keith Mackie and they grabbed their first lead of the game 55-53 on a Deonte Holder layup with 12:52 to play.

Mount Union then scored eight of the next 11 points and retook the lead – 61-58 on a Jeff Foreman three-pointer. Forman's bucket would spark an 11-2 Mount Union run that would push the Raider lead back out to double digits.

Mount Union stays home to host Muskingum Wednesday at 7:30 pm at The MAAC.
