Men's Basketball: Mount Union Knocked Off at Home By Ohio Northern; Raiders Keep Game Lead in Standings

Box Score

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's basketball team suffered a 90-85 home loss to Ohio Northern Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.

Ohio Northern (14-9, 10-6 OAC) took the lead on a three-pointer from Isaiah Roux with 1:44 to play as the Polar Bears finished the game on a 10-5 run over the game's final three minutes to get the win.

Roux finished with a game-high 26 points and led five Ohio Northern players in double figures.

Mount Union (19-4, 14-2 OAC) fell for the first time at home in 12 games dating back to last season, but the Purple Raiders maintain a one-game lead in first place in the conference standings with two games to play.

Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordoinia) had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Mount Union.

Jeff Foreman (Mentor/Mentor) and Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow) came off the bench with 14 and 12 points respectively while Cody Dillion (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) had 12 as the other double figure scorers for the Raiders.

Ohio Northern hit its first eight shots and a jumper by Roux gave them a 19-9 lead five minutes into the game.  Mount Union rallied with a 15-4 run and took a 24-23 lead on a Miles Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) free throw with 7:42 left in the period.  The lead would change hands five more times before Ohio Northern would take a 42-41 lead at the break.

A Dillon jumper to open the second half gave the lead back to Mount Union and the Raiders would eventually take an 11 point lead, 71-60 with 8:39 to play.

Ohio Northern would then go on a 16-4 run to retake the lead, 76-75 on a Jared Horstman three-pointer with 5:21 left.  The lead would change hands three more times before Ohio Northern's final push.

Mount Union next plays Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Marietta.  The Pioneers trail Mount Union by a game in the standings and a Purple Raider win would clinch the OAC title and No. 1 seed in the OAC Tournament.
