ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union's women's basketball team secured the No. 6 seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament as they defeated Wilmington, 72-63 in the regular season finale Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Purple Raiders (12-13, 7-11 OAC) were led by sophomore Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had a team-high 13 points.

Wilmington (12-13, 9-9 OAC) had three players in double-figures with Haley Howard and McKenzie Wippel each scoring a game-high 16 points.

Mount Union opened the game going on a 12-2 run, before Wilmington cut the lead to eight, 14-6, at the 11:36 mark.  The Raiders went up 13 – 21-8 with 8:20 remaining in the first half. The Quakers went on a small 7-2 run, to pull within eight again, 23-15 with only 6:31 remaining in the half.

Over the next six minutes the Raiders surged to their largest lead of the half of 20 points – 44-24, which saw Turner sink two three-pointers. Mount Union would go into the half up 44-25.

The Raiders opened the second half going on a 5-2 run, leading 49-27 at the 15:53 mark, before the Quakers surged on 12-5 run to cut the lead to 15, 54-39 with 12:14 left in the game. Wilmington again connected the ball to the net cutting the Raiders lead to three, 60-57 with 2:52 remaining,  but that was as close as the Quakers would get as Mount Union held on to the nine point victory –72-63.

Mount Union will host Muskingum in the opening game of the OAC Tournament at 7:30 pm at the MAAC.
