Box Score ADA, Ohio – No. 6 seed Mount Union experienced the polar vortex first hand as its offense was frozen in a 49-32 loss to No. 3 seed Ohio Northern in the second round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Tuesday in Ada.
The Purple Raiders, whose season ends with a 14-13 record, converted just 11-of-53 shots from the floor (20.8-percent) and had its lowest scoring night since a 58-39 loss to Baldwin Wallace on Dec. 5, 2007.
Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) and Nancy Osborne (Canton/GlenOak) each had seven points to lead Mount Union.
Ohio Northern (22-4), ranked No. 21 in the nation, had two players in double-figures as Jordan Kimes had a game-high 14 points while Cenzie Yoder chipped in with 10 points and the Polar Bears advance to face regular season co-champion and No. 2 seed John Carroll Thursday night in Cleveland.
As the offense struggled, the defense kept the Raiders in the game early as Mount Union forced seven Ohio Northern first half turnovers and a Kimes buckete with 14 seconds left in the first half gave the Polar Bears a 24-15 lead at the break.
Ohio Northern opened the second half on an 17-3 run and a Kimes layup with 9:40 to play gave ONU a commanding 37-18 lead.
It was the sixth straight winning season for Mount Union.
