ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 sweep of Washington and Jefferson Tuesday afternoon in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders remain a perfect 6-0 on the season, while the Presidents fall to 1-2 on the season.
Mount Union swept in all six singles sets, with Malcolm Leake (Fremont/Fremont Ross) leading the way defeating Josh St. Clair 6-2,7-6 (7-1) in the first singles match. Dominic Marino (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) defeated Renato Popovic 6-0, 6-1 in the number six singles.
The Raiders swept all three doubles matches, Rob DeMarco (North Canton/Hoover) and Ben Swope (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) defeated Sam Miller and Greg Smith 8-3 in the one spot. While Pat Yackmack (Mantua/Twinsburg) and Chase Krammel (Tallmadge/Archbishop Hoban) defeated Popovic and Chris Fadil 8-0 in the three spot.
Mount Union returns to the courts on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 against Franciscan in Alliance.
