Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio - DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) scored a career-high 24 points and led Mount Union to a 95-92 Ohio Athletic Conference win over John Carroll Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
With the win, Mount Union (11-4, 7-1 OAC) remains one-game behind No. 7 ranked Marietta for first place in the OAC. The Purple Raiders travel to Marietta next Wednesday, Jan. 24 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
Jackson was a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range and only missed two shots from the field, 9-of-11 as one of four Purple Raiders in double figures.
Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) added 15 points, Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers), who was presented a game ball commematering his 1,000th point at Mount Union before the game, scored 13 points while Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) added 12 points off the bench.
John Carroll (10-4, 6-2 OAC) was led by David Linane with 21 points, David Hendrickson scored 16 points and Jake Hollinger added 15 points in defeat.
The Blue Streaks jumped out to an early 12-point lead, 21-9 with 15:28 left in the half, thanks to a 12-2 run.
The Raiders responded with a 10-1 run to tie the game, 28-28 with 7:53 left before halftime.
A 5-0 run gave the Raiders a 44-39 lead with two minutes left in the half and led 46-42 entering the lockerroom.
John Carroll started the second half on a 23-4 run to take its largest lead of the game, 65-50 with 11:39 left in the game.
A 14-6 Raider run, including three-pointers from Jacubec, Jackson and Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia), cut the lead to seven, 71-64 with 9:17 left in the game.
Mount Union trailed 81-70 with six minutes to play before it put together an 8-0 run, capped off by a three-point play by Moore.
The game was tied 90-90 with 1:36 left in regulation when Jackson sunk his fifth three-pointer of the game to give the Raiders a three-point lead.
John Carroll's David Hendrickson converted a layup on the other end to bring the game within a point.
Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) threw a long pass to Griffin on the ensuing inbounds play, who was fouled and sent to the free throw line. Griffin made both free throws to give the Raiders a three-point lead with 10 second to play.
John Carroll missed a game-tying three-pointer as time expired and Mount Union held on for the 95-92 win.
