ALLIANCE, Ohio— Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Marietta 71-57 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game to close out the first half of the season.

The Purple Raiders (7-9, 3-6 OAC) were led by two players scoring in double-figures. Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scored a game-high 24 points while freshman Isabella Pecchia (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) added 10 points and led the team grabbing nine rebounds.

Marietta (6-10, 2-7 OAC) also had two players in double-figures with Heather Booth and Jessica Brogan scoring 14 and 13 respectively.

Mount Union opened the game on a 5-2 run fueled by a Bova three pointer.

The Pioneers answered with a 5-0 run to lead 7-5 at the 18:03 mark.

The Raiders pushed the lead to as many as nine—23-14-- grabbing seven offensive rebounds with under eight minutes remaining in the half.

Marietta gained their second lead of the game at the 1:40 mark after a 27-8 run sparked by Brogan scoring eight points during the run as the Pioneers led 36-29 at halftime.

The Raiders opened the second half with a three-pointer from Colleen Kennehan (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) which fueled a 7-4 run to bring the Raiders within one –40-39—at the 14:47 mark.

Back-and-forth scoring for the next five minutes kept the Pioneers in the lead until five straight points for Bova pushed the Raiders into the driver's seat with a 49-47 lead.

Marietta tied the game at the 6:52 mark –53-53—with four points going to Amisha Herd.

Four-straight points for Pecchia sparked an 18-4 run as the Raiders would go on to defeat the Pioneers 71-57.

Mount Union next travels to Otterbein to begin the second half of conference play Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3:00 pm in Westerville.
