BEREA, Ohio— The Mount Union women's basketball team split the series with Baldwin Wallace with a 70-65 Ohio Athletic Conference road loss Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders (8-10, 4-7 OAC) had two players scoring in double-figures with junior Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) leading the team with 17 while junior Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) added 14.

Baldwin Wallace (14-4, 9-2 OAC) was led by Shari Mangas who scored a game-high 18 points followed by Audrey Smolik adding 11.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on an 8-2 run grabbing a 14-4 early lead in the first seven minutes of the game.

Baldwin Wallace continued their run gaining their largest lead of the first half—22-10—before Mount Union began chipping away at the lead.

The Raiders cut the lead to two—29-27—with a 17-7 run capped by Reed who scored five straight points with under three minutes remaining in the first half.

Even scoring over the next three minutes gave Baldwin Wallace the one point advantage, 36-35, heading into the break.

Freshman Isabella Pecchia (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) hit a jumper to tie the game, 40-40, two minutes into the second half.

A Yellow Jacket 16-5 run extended the lead to 13, it's largest of the game giving Baldwin Wallace a 62-49 advantage.

The Purple Raiders cut the lead to three—63-60-- with an 11-1 run with Bova scoring seven points and Reed adding the other four at the 2:51 mark.

A three-pointer for Reed brought the Raiders within four with 16 seconds remaining before Baldwin Wallace went on to defeat Mount Union 70-65.

Mount Union returns home as they play host to Capital on Alumni Night Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 pm at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
