ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's basketball team suffered an Ohio Athletic Conference loss to Heidelberg Saturday.

The Purple Raiders (5-6, 1-3 OAC) were led by junior Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scoring a game-high 24 points followed by senior Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) who added 11.

The Student Princes (4-7, 2-2 OAC) had four players score in double figures with Allie Hawkins leading with 16 points. Theresa Jackson and Shelby Dearth each added 14 and 12 while Carli Patrick ended the night with a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Raiders opened the game on a 4-0 run with back-to-back layups for Bova and Moore.

Hedielberg would answer with two three pointers for Hawkins to take a two point lead at the 18:58 mark.

The Student Princes went on a 5-0 run at the 9:39 mark gaining the largest lead of the first half –26-21.

The half saw eight ties and 13 different lead changes before going into the break, 40-39, in favor of Heidelberg.

Mount Union started the second half with a Bova three pointer to take a two point lead as the Raiders shot 42.6% from the three.

A 9-2 run for Heidelberg sparked by a Dearth three, would give them the lead – 49-42—which they would hold for the remainder of the game as Heidelberg shot 59.2% from behind the arc and 66.7% from the floor.

The Purple Raiders went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to three—62-59—at the 5:47 mark before the Student Princes answered with a 9-2 run on their way to a 75-65 victory.

Mount Union looks to bounce back as they travel to Ohio Northern Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 pm.
