ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union women's basketball team dropped a 79-69 Ohio Athletic Conference game to Capital on Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Purple Raiders (8-11, 4-8 OAC) were led by Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) scoring a career-high and game-high 22 points. Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) added 16 points in defeat.

Capital (10-9, 6-6 OAC) had four players score in double-figures with Kristen Thompson leading the team with 19 points, Nina Napolitano and Simonne Gage each adding 17 and Jenna Erwin finishing out the double-figure scorers with 10.

The Raiders found themselves in an early 12-3 deficit after four minutes of playing time. Later in the half Mount Union closed the gap with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 18-16 with 12:18 left in the half. 

Mount Union took the lead 23-20 but Capital went on a 13-0 run to take a 10 point lead with 6:20 left in the half. Capital eventually went up by 11 points before Mount Union closed the half on an 11-2 run and trailed by just two at the half, 38-36.

The Raiders scored the first three points of the second half to take a one point lead. The game was tied at 42-42 until the Crusaders opened up a nine point lead with a 12-3 run. The Raiders were not done as they mounted an 10-1 run to tie the game with 9:06 left in the game. 

After the tie Capital scored the next seven points of the game to take a 64-57 advantage. The Raiders could get no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Mount Union next travels to Muskingum Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 pm in New Concord.
