ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's volleyball team was defeated by Heidelberg in three sets in and Ohio Athletic Conference match Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Student Princes (18-6, 5-0 OAC) defeated the Purple Raiders (14-8, 3-2 OAC) by scores of 25-12, 27-25, 25-20.
Offensively, the Raiders were led by sophomore Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) who tallied nine kills, while junior Caitlyn Synek (Independence/Independence) and freshman Sabrina Ochoa (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) each added seven kills.
Sophomore Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) led Mount Union with 18 assists while junior Kelly Johnson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) added 12.
Defensively, the Raiders were led by freshman Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) with 15 digs.
After falling 25-12 in the opening set, the Raiders led most of the second set before Heidelberg battled back to tie the match at 22-22. With the score tied at 25, a pair of Mount Union attack errors handed the Berg a 27-25 win in set two.
In the third set, Baird went on a six-point run with her serve to give Mount Union a 16-10 lead. The Student Princes battled back to tie the game up 17-17 and went on to the 25-20 win.
The Raiders travel to New Concord, Ohio to take on Muskingum Tuesday, October 19 at 7 pm.
