ALLIANCE, Ohio – Jonathan Akindipe (Twinsburg/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) scored in overtime to lift Mount Union to a 2-1 win over Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer game Tuesday at Mount Union Stadium.

It was the second goal of the game for the sophomore, as it came on a long free kick that deflected and he slid in to shoot the ball into the top corner of the goal to seal the victory in the 97th minute for the Purple Raiders.

The win evened Mount Union's record in the conference at 1-1 while the Raiders stand at 6-3-1 overall.

Marietta, 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, broke a 0-0 tie in the 72nd minute when Tyler Bro corralled a ball off of a corner and put it in the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

Mount Union was awarded a penalty kick in the 80th minute for a handball in the box by a Marietta defender, but Aaron Liezert's (Medina/Medina) penalty kick was stopped by Marietta keeper Tyler Sholl.

The Raiders tied the game in the 86th as Akindipe scored a goal on a pass from senior Mitchell Tiah (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) to force overtime.

Mount Union next plays Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at Ohio Northern in Ada.
