TIFFIN, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Heidelberg 73-59 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday in Tiffin.

Senior guard Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had 17 points and freshman guard Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) had 16 as Mount Union improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.

The Student Princes (4-3, 2-1 OAC) were led by Marisa Luburdi who scored 19 points and also added five rebounds.

Heidelberg ran out to a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game but a pair of Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) jumpers sparked a 13-4 run. That run was finished by a Bova layup and free throw gave Mount Union a 13-10 lead with 1:42 to play in the quarter.  Grippi finished the quarter with a pair of free throws to give the Raiders a 17-14 lead.

The Berg scored nine of the next 11 points to retake the lead, 23-19 with 5:20 left in the second quarter.  Mount Union then finished the quarter on a 14-3 run to lead 33-26 at the half.

In the third quarter, Heidelberg would again start strong with a 14-7 run to tie the game at 40.  The score was tied two more times before the Raiders scored four of the final six points of the quarter to lead 51-49.

Liburdi hit a shot to tie the game at 51 to start the fourth quarter but back to back three-pointers from Tinkey gave Mount Union the lead for good as the Raiders went on the 14-point win.

Mount Union stays on the road playing an OAC game Saturday, Dec . 12 at 3:00 pm at Otterbein.
